Tiffany & Co Returns to the Jazz Age Glamour for The Great Gatsby

Ever since I can remember I've been fascinated with jewelry, the way it can be moulded and manipulated in luminous metals and with vibrant gemstones to produce art. Jewelry has the ability to hold feelings and sentiments, it can be appreciated and passed through generations. Although a piece can speak strongly to a region, time, or certain fashion, jewelry always retains a timeless quality. For this reason I feel a bit less guilty splurging on a piece of fine jewelry, I know it will retain its appreciation and value many seasons and generations from now, unlike a lot of clothing!

If you have read my blog from the very start you know (if you have read my post The Quintessential Renaissance Man) that I am eternally inspired by The Great Gatsby, and the age to which it pertains. I love the sartorial world and excessive glamour. So you can only imagine how ecstatic I was when I learnt of the Tiffany & Co collaboration with The Great Gatsby Film (one of the most anticipated films for me!). And thus the Ziegfeld collection was born! It was only an inevitable collaboration judging from the fondness for Tiffany's pieces of Scott Fitzgerald and his wife.

The film had access to Tiffany's archive pieces from the Jazz Age, many of which are worn in the film. Sketches were also pulled from the Tiffany's archives ( including many musings of Louis Comfort Tiffany) from the Jazz age and created, one example is the gorgeous diamond and pearl tiara/headband made for Daisy to wear at the party at Gatsby's. Also for the film Tiffany & Co collaborated with Catherine Martin and created many original pieces inspired by the book and Glamourous Jazz Age. This includes the amazing daisy signet ring and cufflinks worn by Gatsby in the film.
Many of the fine pieces from the film were limited edition, with only four made of each! I envy the people who get to own these. Most of these are featured in the Blue Book, to be released later this year. Another line was also created, available soon at Tiffany & Co stores across the country (#YYC included), with pieces a little more subtle than the ones from the film but a little more accessible to the general public (this is a huge understatement). But it's so thrilling to know that we have a potential to own pieces inspired by such a beautiful story and age!
I desperately want the gorgeous black onyx daisy signet ring from the Ziegfeld collection, worn by Gatsby in the movie and available at many Tiffany's stores across the country! Very reminiscent of the 'cool' elegance of the 20's!

My Mother's Life in Pictures

So, I wanted to share my photography final with everyone! That must mean it's almost summer, just one more week! My photography final culminated in all the techniques I had learnt throughout the semester. The project was to tell a story and what better story for than my mothers, A woman who inspires me more than anything.  My sister (aka Couture Bano) modelled of course! The story was not to deep or super abstract, it showed my mom from marriage to moving to a new country to her middle life where she worked hard at managing her business and life. It was a lot of fun and Couture Bano was very endearing! The message of the narrative was basically you never forget where you come from.

Feeling Sentimental

Recently I modelled and photographed a self-portrait project, for my university photography class, aimed at describing myself. I had been inspired by Dianne Bos's La Porte" New Images From an Old World exhibition. I was really questioning the value of objects and the futility of attaching sentiments to them. So I tried to describe myself through a scene cluttered with stuff that I had sentiment attached to and that described me as a person. I wanted to gauge a response to my shot without the background info of what each object really represented to me. If you want to check out more pictures you can check out the full exhibition at The University Of Calgary from 8:30-4:30 till this friday.

Mens Hairstyle and Grooming Trends at New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2013-2014

NYFW has been a buzz with womans beauty but what did it have to offer in terms of mens grooming and hair? A lot! NYFW set a lot more trends for mens hairstyles in 2013. After studying mens hairstyles trends at NYFW at both shows and street style, fall/winter 2013-2014, 3 major things in hair were observed: A slick look, volume, and texture. For a slick look a fine comb and a product with good hold while lacking greasy-ness does the trick. I'm totally with the big volume and texture, with this any good product like a clay or cream will help. Lots use hairsprays to hold it up, I prefer a minimum amount for hold. Big and Sexy Hair has a hair powder that works wonders as well, I would strongly advise it.
For skin, it was really matte. To achieve this a good moisturizer goes a long way, my personal favourite mens moisturizer is Biotherms absolute gel. It does a great job while giving a matte look. Powders are out there that go the extra mile. But if your not up for the struggle, like me, a good moisturizer does the job.

Are Men's Coloured Trousers and Coloured Denim the Next Big Thing?

Tom Ford
Paris, Italy, and New York have finalized their verdict coloured trousers and denim are guilty of being the next big thing. Coloured trousers and denim have been extremely hot lately in both men's and women's style. They are definitely not for the light of heart or for anything less than the bold. Clients are very easily intimidated by the prospect of brightly coloured denim or trousers, especially men. But if your looking to make a style statement and don the next big thing these are the pants to be donning this season.
They are not as difficult to pull of as many may imagine. You can tone it down with a more neutral pice like a dark sweater or jacket or you can work it up with another bright colour. I personally like the idea of two contrasting bright colours, cause if your going bold in the pants why not go the whole way! And why not add some bright socks while your at it! I love colour, and if you love it theres no better time to show it then now. This is a trend I'm super excited about, I can't wait to be donning trousers all across the colour spectrum.
